CHALLENGE
Providence Animal Center is a lifesaving animal welfare organization based in Media, PA. They offer life-affirming rescue, medical care, treatment, protection, and placement of companion animals.
They’ve held their annual Bark in the Park fundraiser since 2008. But because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Providence Animal Center needed to transition the 2020 event to a virtual experience instead. Despite having an established audience for the event, Providence Animal Center has still been able to draw larger crowds year over year since Bark in the Park began. Understandably, they were concerned the pandemic would fail to attract new participants and, worse, could cause past participants not to attend the event in 2020.
Providence Animal Center had to transition to a virtual event without losing participant engagement.
SOLUTION
Providence Animal Center turned to Qgiv to create a peer-to-peer page for their virtual event. They utilized Qgiv’s integration with Facebook Fundraisers to avoid manual post-event donation reconciliation while giving participants an easy way to raise funds. They set an initial goal of $80,000 and used a fundraising thermometer to show progress toward that goal on their event page. They built engagement into the event with a fundraising bingo card for Instagram, a pet costume contest on their Facebook page, and with a virtual 5K. To ensure they reached their goal, they sought matching gift opportunities to help individual donations go further.
RESULTS
Providence Animal Center reached their $80k fundraising goal with more than a week left to go! Staff at Providence Animal Center took this initial success and built upon it by increasing their event fundraising goal to $100k. With matching gifts and eager fundraising participants, they exceeded their $100k goal by an additional $27,000 dollars!
Ultimately, Providence Animal Center raised 127% of their fundraising goal despite having to transition their popular in-person event to a virtual fundraiser.
